A woman tragically lost her life after she was killed by her own car, police said

Cobb County Police said Glenda Boyd, 59, of Marietta, was backing out of the driveway at a home on Angus Court when she exited the car.

Moments later, the black 2011 Chrysler 300, continued in reverse and the open driver’s door hit Boyd causing her to fall down.

Around 11:08 a.m., a jogger spotted her pinned beneath the car's door. He called police.

After dialing 911, he tried to unpin the woman, but found she was dead.

11Alive's Ron Jones went back to the woman's neighborhood, where he spoke with neighbors. They told him Boyd, whom they called a "lovely lady," was often seen walking along Angus Court in her neighborhood.

Many of them are left wondering how an accident like this could happen.

"It really hurt that she was laid out there," said John Knox.

"It's just heartbreaking, especially this time of the season," Donna Haon echoed.

11Alive spoke to Boyd's son over the phone, who said the medical examiner has yet to determine the cause of her death, but he did say his mom suffered from heart disease. An autopsy is pending to answer more questions.

Anyone with information regarding this death which may assist investigators with this case is asked to call (770) 499-3987.
